Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, paid homage to the brave freedom fighter Jhalkari Bai by garlanding her portrait at Samajwadi Party's State Headquarters in Lucknow on Monday. Yadav highlighted Jhalkari Bai's significant role in India's first freedom struggle in 1857 and how she served as a trusted fighter of Jhansi's Rani Lakshmibai.
Jhalkari Bai was the commander of Durga Dal, which was the women's wing of Jhansi's regular army, and played a crucial role in the battle against the British. Due to her striking resemblance to Rani Jhansi, she fought the British army in her own guise and was a formidable warrior.
In his address on this occasion, Yadav criticized the current government, stating that it is spreading lies and causing distress to every section of society. He pointed out the rising levels of inflation, unemployment, and corruption in the country, along with the government's efforts to divide society. Yadav emphasized that the Samajwadi Party has always fought against injustice and will continue to do so.
Jhalkari Bai's heroism and her contributions to India's freedom struggle are an inspiration to many, and it is heartening to see leaders like Akhilesh Yadav pay tribute to her memory and legacy.
